Mrs Ruth (Loney) Brown

As well as her own children, she brought up her husbands two children from his first marriage after he died in 1892. Her stepdaughter was killed in 1915 on the RMS Lusitania, and she outlived both her sons too. In 1921, she divided her husband's estate on Long Island into 967 lots which was auctioned off for $554,850. She lived the rest of her life between New York and the fashionable resorts of Europe.
