Robert Bonner Bowler (1856-1902)
Robert B. Bowler Jr., of Cincinnati; Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury
He was born at Mount Storm in Cincinnati. He was initially educated at public schools and then by private tutors with whom he travelled abroad. He studied law, finishing top of his class before being appointed to the Cincinnati Bar. He was elected Mayor of Clifton and in 1890 was sent to Congress. In 1893, he was appointed Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury in the second administration of Grover Cleveland. He was married on August 8th, 1877, at St. George's, Hanover Square, London, to Alice Bernard Williamson whose sister, May, was married to Robert's only brother, George. They were the parents of 3-children: Robert, Jane (Mrs Gilman), and Alice (Mrs Bolitho).
