Reverdy Johnson (1796-1876)

U.S. Senator from Maryland, Attorney-General & Minister to the United Kingdom

He and his wife had fifteen children of whom twelve (listed) survived infancy. They lived between his mansion on Baltimore's Monument Square and his 286-acre country estate near Baltimore, "Lyndhurst" (see images), set on the heights above the Gwynn's Falls Valley southeast of Franklintown, and described in 1859 as, "a new and very striking house, with a most extended and superb view."
