Rebecca (Rogers) Codwise (1756-1843)
Mrs. Rebecca (Rogers) Codwise
She was the granddaughter of Danish Royalty and the daughter of John Rogers who owned the largest sugar warehouse in New York City that could store the sugar from the seven or eight sugar plantations he owned on the Island of St. Croix, where Rebecca spent her childhood. Her father worked the Triangle Trade, not only owning but buying and selling slaves. However, Rebecca herself was an abolitionist, although she kept it a secret until later in life.
