R. Bruce McCloskey (1920-2014)
Dr (Robert) Bruce McCloskey, M.D., of Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri
He was born at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School and graduated in medicine from the University of Iowa. Reaching the rank of Captain, he served in the U.S. Army operating an eye, ear, nose and throat clinic in the Philippines. Returning to the U.S., he completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan (1953) and moved to St. Louis opening an Ear, Nose & Throat practice. He trained in plastic surgery, head and neck procedures, and facial reconstruction by taking advanced courses in Miami, New York, and Austria. He was President of the Lutheran Medical Center (1976); taught at the St. Louis University Hospital (1954-1979); and, worked for twenty years (1954-1974) at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kirkwood.
He was an active member of the Bridlespur Hunt in the 1960s and in 1981 became a charter member and co-Master of the Meramec Valley Hunt. From 1993 to 1998, he was the Great Plains Representative for the Masters of Foxhounds Association Board of Directors. He lived at Webster Groves in St. Louis and served two terms on the City Council, "initially driven to do so by his opposition to a local ordinance banning the stabling of horses". He was married and divorced twice, with 5-children by his first wife.
