Peter Manigault (1805-1864)

of "Awendaw" and the 3rd South Carolina Cavalry

He as the twin of his brother, Charles. He inherited their father's country residence, "Awendaw". On the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted as a private in the South Carolina Cavalry and was killed in his 60th year at Ball's Ferry on the Ocmulgee River in Georgia, in an encounter with Sherman's Army.
