Patrick Grant (1777-1812)
Merchant, of Grant & Balfour at Boston
He was the sixth son of John Grant (1738-1819), of Leith, Scotland. He came to Boston to seek his fortune in about 1800 where he represented his brothers' mercantile firm, Grant & Balfour, of London, Genoa and Leghorn. He was lost at sea in a storm in the Bay of Biscay while returning to Boston from France. His first wife was from Philadelphia but she died without children. In 1807, he married Anna Powell Mason, daughter of U.S. Senator Jonathan Mason, and they had two children.
