Nathaniel Langdon Frothingham (1793-1870)

Unitarian Minister & Pastor of the First Church of Boston, Massachusetts

His intelligence was identified at an early age when several of his father's friends clubbed together to pay for his education: "Mr. F was very proud of his boy, who distinguished himself in the public schools, and by the aid of Theophilus Parsons, Samuel Dexter, and others, he was sent to Cambridge (Harvard)". By 1851, having started life running errands in his father's small crockery store, as a result of his marriage to Ann Brooks, daughter of Boston's first millionaire, Peter Chardon Brooks, he was reputed to be worth $250,000. His sister, Joanna, married another Boston millionaire, Josiah Bradlee. He and Ann were the parents of six children who lived to adulthood.
