Mary (Leiter) Curzon (1870-1906)
Lady Mary Victoria (Leiter) Curzon, Baroness Curzon of Kedleston
Her mother took her first to France where they hoped to find her a titled husband. Finding the French "self-centred" and "snobs" they turned their attentions to England. They owed their introduction into London society to (then Sir) Lyon Playfair, whose third wife, Edith Russell, was from Boston. The Playfairs invited Mary and her mother to a luncheon attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales and she was introduced to the Royal coupe by the Duchess of St. Albans, and her social life didn't look back. She immediately fell for George Curzon but it took longer for his heart to melt. However, once married he was captivated by his American wife, and was heartbroken when she died only a few years later. They were the parent of three children.
