Carolina Washington (Bond) Morosini (1883-1954)
Mrs Mary "Carolina" Washington (Bond) Morosini
She was a great-great-granddaughter (through her mother) of George Steptoe Washington, nephew of George Washington. Her miniature seen here was painted by Carl A. Weidner in 1905. She was described as, "one of New York's loveliest girls" and her suitors had included Sir Thomas Lipton and a brother of the Khedive of Egypt, but she chose to marry Attilio Morosini, of New York, whose father (born in Venice to an old Venetian family) came to New York and made a $2.6-million fortune as the partner and confidential secretary of the notorious robber baron Jay Gould. They had a son who died in infancy and one daughter. As a widow she lived on Park Avenue in New York.
