Martha (Alger) Mackenzie (1847-1921)

Mrs Martha Augusta Hinkley (Alger) Mackenzie

She was the grand-daughter and co-heiress of Cyrus Alger (1781-1856), who outlived her father. He owned an iron foundry and made a fortune on becoming an arms manufacturer. From 1859, Martha and her two sisters were brought up in Montreal by their Prussian-born stepfather, Dr. Friedrich Müller.
