of San Francisco; Co-Founder & Treasurer of the Central Pacific Railroad

His 34-room mansion (see images) was one of showpieces of 19th century San Francisco, as were those of the others of the "Big Four": Collis Huntington, Charles Crocker, and Leland Stanford.
