Mabel (Norman) Cerio (1876-1949)
Mrs Mabel (Norman) Cerio, Artist, of "Paradise" Bird Sanctuary, Middletown, R.I.
She was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She became noted for her portraits and was a member of both the Providence Art Club and the Newport Art Association. She married an Italian and regularly traveled to Europe, wintering on the Italian island of Capri. Her home at Middletown, Rhode Island, is now known as the "Norman Bird Sanctuary" which she lent to her grand-nephew, Louis Livingston Lorillard (President and founder of the Newport Jazz Festival), after he married his first wife, Elaine Guthrie, in 1946. Some of her portraits are on display at the Newport Art Museum.
