Lydig Monson Hoyt (1821-1868)

of "The Point" Staatsburg, Dutchess Co., New York

His house at Staatsburg - now known as 'Hoyt House' - was designed by Calvert Vaux and was built between 1855 and 1858. Mrs. Hoyt was a granddaughter of Governor Morgan Lewis and through his estate she inherited the northern part of the property. Mr. Hoyt then added a further 61-acres to create their a 91-acre estate. It was home to the Hoyt family until 1963, and although it still stands, it's now derelict.
