Lawrence Timpson (1865-1937)

Captain Lawrence Timpson, of "Maizefield" & Appleton Manor, Oxfordshire

He was born in New York City and grew up between there and Maizefield in Dutchess County. He graduated from Columbia University in 1891 and became a member of the New York bar and Captain in the New York 1st Regiment. He divided his time between New York and initially Hampshire in England, later becoming a Captain with the Hampshire Carabiniers and serving with the British Expeditionary Force during World War One (1914-1918). On his marriage to Katherine Livingston his mother gifted him Maizefield. By 1924, he moved with his family to Appleton Manor in Oxfordshire which became their permanent home. They were the parents of five children.
