Julia Maria Lambert (1792-1861)
Julia Maria Lambert, of Toronto; died unmarried
She was born at Wilton, Connecticut. After her sister died in 1840, she moved to Toronto and assisted in the rearing of her children in the household of her brother-in-law, The Hon. George Crookshank. Her letters, An American Lady in Old Toronto: The Letters of Julia Lambert 1821-1854, are a great source of information on upper class society in Toronto. She never married nor had children of her own but her gravestone reads: "In memory of her untiring devotion in filling a mother's place to her sister's children one of whom surviving her (Catherine Heward), here records her deep and grateful love".
