Julia (Calcutt) Henry (1756-1835)
Mrs Julia (Calcutt) Kittson, afterwards Henry
She was "a woman of considerable personal fortitude". She was a native of Newtown-Limavady, Co. Derry, in Northern Ireland. She sailed from Cork to Montreal with her two infant children to be reunited with her husband, an Anglo-Irish officer on active service in America. But, by the time she arrived at Montreal he was dead. There, she met the well-known Canadian fur-trader and explorer, Alexander Henry, and within the year they were married. They had five children together. Julia was the godparent with Sir Isaac Brock to William McGillivray's youngest daughter, Magdalen Julia McGillivray who grew up at Chateau Saint-Antoine. It is open to debate whether Julia and Alexander Henry met in Canada, England, or Ireland around 1780, but they were the parents of several children, two of whom were born before they were married.
