Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. (1915-2002)
of Scranton, Pennsylvania
His father moved from Baltimore to Scranton in the 1930s, where he was married in 1941. By that time he was managing an office in Boston for his wealthy uncle who made Sheen Armor, watertight sealants used by merchant ships during World War II. The family were well-off, and he enjoyed jumping on a private plane with his cousin to hunt elk and bear in the Adirondacks. But the end of the war saw the company fold and he returned to Scranton where he never regained his former lifestyle.
