John Winthrop (1587-1649)

Lord of the Manor of Groton, Suffolk & 2nd Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony

He was born in England at Edwardstone, Suffolk. In 1630, he founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony and served as Governor of the colony from 1630 to 1634, 1637 to 1640, 1642 to 1644, and 1646 to 1649. He was married four times and by his first three wives had eight children (listed) who lived to adulthood.
