John Sanderson (1777-1852)

Steel Merchant, of Sanderson Brothers & Co., Sheffield

He and his brothers (Thomas, James and Edward) were the senior partners in Sanderson Brothers & Co., owners of the Darnall Steelworks and Don Valley Glassworks in Sheffield. He was also a Director of the Rotherham Bank. In the 1960s the firm merged with Kayser Ellison to become Sanderson Kayser Ltd. Both John's children listed here went to New York and his son, Edward Fisher Sanderson, married two sisters of the father-in-law of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
