John Rozet Drexel (1863-1935)
John Rozet Drexel I, of New York City & Paris, France
He was born at Philadelphia, the second son of the legendary financier, Anthony Joseph Drexel. Not long after his marriage to Alice Troth, he inherited $23 million from his father and they divided their time between Philadelphia, Manhattan, and Newport. In the early 1930s, they relocated to Paris, France. Having filled their townhouse with art and antiques they first extended it and then bought the one next door to accommodate their growing collection. Lastly, they demolished the house behind them to build a spacious garden. John died at Paris, survived by three of his four children.
