John Lowe Newbold (1871-1931)
Founding President of the Merchant's Transfer & Storage Co., Washington D.C.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio, but after the age of nine spent the remainder of his life resident in Washington D.C. Soon after leaving school he established the Merchant's Transfer & Storage Co., a parcel delivery service serving a number of downtown department stores. In 1924, he was appointed a Director of the Federal-American National Bank. In 1912, he purchased Dumbarton House, Georgetown, and he was a brother-in-law of Frank B. Noyes, President of the Associated Press. He was a member of the Metropolitan, Chevy Chase, Blue Ridge Rod & Gun, and Rotary Clubs.
