John Eliot Thayer (1803-1857)

Banker & U.S. Senator, of 58 Mount Vernon Street, Boston, Massachusetts

He was one of the early members of the banking house of Kidder, Peabody & Company. He was appointed to the U.S. Senate to succeed Daniel Webster in 1850. He commissioned Richard Upjohn to build both his townhouse and country house (see images) in the same Italianate style.
