James Wilson (1787-1850)

of Steubenville; Newspaper Owner, Judge & Member of the Ohio Legislature

He and his wife were born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Coming to America, he began his career asa journalist working for the Philadelphia Aurora, before purchasing the Western Herald and founding the Pennsylvania Advocate. Between 1816 and 1822, he was elected three times ro represent Jefferson County in the Ohio House of Representatives. His grandson was U.S. President Woodrow Wilson.
