James Mills (1788-1841)
J.P., of North Salem, Westchester County, New York
He came to Dutchess County, New York, where he was married but settled at North Salem. Described as "a sturdy farmer" engaged in several businesses, he became a supervisor, considerable landowner, Postmaster and Justice of the Peace. Towards the end of his life he moved to Sing Sing (Ossining Village) where he'd bought a hotel and dock property. It was there that he died, leaving the hotel and boat business to his sons, although by then the business was already described as "futile".
