James Lyle (1765-1826)

Merchant (Lyle & Newman), of 94 South 4th Street, Philadelphia

Born into a landed family at Coleraine, Northern Ireland. As the youngest son, he came to Philadelphia as a merchant and set himself up in business with John Beauclerc Newman. Their firm, Lyle & Newman, amassed a fortune and after the death of his wife James took up residence at her family home, The Woodlands.
