James Bowen (d.1884)

James Bowen Jr., Lumber Merchant & Mayor of Cap Rouge, Quebec

He is often and easily confused with his father, James Bowen Sr. James Bowen Jr. was the manager and a senior partner in the Cap Rouge Pier & Wharf Company (CRPW), the second largest (by a very long way) exporters of Canadian oak. He lived between Clapham Terrace at 112 Grande Allée (next door to his father at 110) in Quebec City and "Hillside" on Cap Rouge before purchasing what had been James Bell Forsyth's "handsome villa" in 1880, better known as "Redcliff" or "Carouge" (see pictures). He was elected Mayor of Cap Rouge in 1882, and died in office two years later. Rue James-Bowen at Sainte-Foy-Sillery-Cap-Rouge was renamed Rue de Callieres in 1978.
