James Alexander Paterson (1924-1981)
"Jim" Paterson, of 24 Thurloe Square, Kensington & Fifield, Oxfordshire
He was born and educated in Montreal before studying at the Royal Canadian Naval College. He graduated from McGill University and won a Rhodes scholarship to continue his studies at Balliol College, Oxford. He remained in England where he established a company that he sold to the global mining conglomerate, Rio Tinto Zinc, and was duly placed on their board in London. Despite his popularity and early success, his career failed to progress. He lived life to the full and according to his son-in-law, Walter Gordon Fischer, "he died at the age of 55 from an excess of booze and drugs". He married Rosalie Ballantyne, grand-daughter of Senator Charles C. Ballantyne. They were the parents of a son (Rob Paterson of Knowlton, Quebec) and two daughters.
