Henry Rogers (1753-1837)

Henry Rogers, Merchant, of New York City

He was born in New York City where he went into business with his brothers: Fitch and Nehemiah. Prior to the Revolution, they were successful merchants, but being Loyalists they were evacuated with the British Army and were among the founders of Saint John, New Brunswick. Shortly afterwards, Henry returned with his brothers to New York where in 1792 he founded Rogers & Lyde which, "did a very large iron business in New York City and continued under various names until 1821 when he retired to form other alliances". He was married twice. By his first, Catherine, he had a son and a daughter. By his second wife, Frances, he had another son and three daughters.
