Henry Beekman Livingston (1818-1861)

Henry B. Livingston, of New York City & Tivoli, Dutchess Co., New York

He was born at Staatsburg, Dutchess County, New York, and was educated at Dr Allen's School in Hyde Park. Being of "delicate health," his siblings agreed that he should inherit the most valuable share of their mother's estate, that being her townhouse at 68-72 Leonard Street. Nonetheless, he went into business in New York City and established the merchant house of Foster & Livingston which enabled him to retire comfortably with a small fortune. In politics, he was a Republican and supported Abraham Lincoln. He lived between his mother's house at 68 Leonard Street and his own at 18 Washington Square North, both in New York City. He and his family summered at Tivoli in Dutchess County at the home of his father-in-law, John Swift Livingston. In 1844, at Tivoli, he married Mary Lawrence Livingston and they had three children.
