Hamilton Wilkes (b.1804)

of New York City & Hyde Park, Dutchess Co.; Owner of the Hudson River Railroad

He was a co-founder of the Union Club and the first Vice-Commodore of the New York Yacht Club, serving for eight years. "A large, colorful gentleman," he resided at Hyde Park, in Dutchess County, New York. He died in Europe, leaving one daughter who was married to Count Ferdinando Frenfanelli Cibo, "one of the Pope's noble guards" who had to quit Rome and was not allowed back to his post until his wife became a Catholic.
