Gulian Crommelin Verplanck (1786-1870)

Gulian C. Verplanck, State Senator & U.S. Representative from New York

He was a noted Shakespearean scholar (and a member of the "Knickerbocker Group"), philologist, Member of the New York State Senate, co-founder of the Century Association in New York, a patron of the arts, a pioneer reformer in the field of immigration reception, and a vestryman and warden of both Trinity Church, New York City, and Trinity Church, Fishkill. In 1846, his fortune was estimated at $200,000.
