Greenwood Cushing Child (1785-1855)

Greenwood C. Child, of Augusta, Maine

He lived in Augusta, Maine, where he was a merchant with an extensive business. He declined to enter politics, finding it to his "utter distaste". In 1815, he married Lucy Howe Palmer and they were the parents of eight children, of whom only their youngest daughter died before reaching adulthood. In 1850, Greenwood Child bought the Blaine House on State Street which stood on land once owned by his father.
