George Waldo Emerson, Sr. (1861-1947)

George Waldo Emerson, Wool Merchant & Hatter, of Northampton, Massachusetts

He was born at Somersworth, New Hampshire. He was educated in Chicago and at Exeter, New Hampshire. He entered the wool business at Boston and for several years was the President-Treasurer of the Merrimac Hat Company, of Amesbury, Massachusetts. On his death, he gifted the most of his large library to the U.S. Library of Congress. He was a member of the New England Genealogical Society and the Boston Athenaeum. In 1904, he married Susan Hood, a noted teacher and headmistress. He was survived by his wife, 4-sons and 3-daughters (Mrs Kelley, Mrs Raymond & Mrs Peters).
