Frederick William Vanderbilt (1856-1938)

F.W. Vanderbilt, of Hyde Park, New York etc.

He bought 1025 Fifth Avenue in 1917 from the heirs of Lloyd Stephens Bryce and commissioned its original architect, Ogden Codman, Jr., to redecorate it. After the death of his wife in 1926 he became a virtual recluse, living alone except for his servants on the third floor of their mansion at Hyde Park. They had no children.
