Frederick Rhinelander (1743-1805)
Glass & Ceramics Merchant, of Burling's Slip, New York City
He was a leading glass and ceramics merchant as the proprietor of a china, glass, and earthenware store on Burling's Slip in New York City, supplying Valley merchants with tumblers during the 1770s. As a Loyalist, he dominated the New York market during the Revolution, receiving and selling cargoes of fine English cut glass and ceramics and Chinese export porcelain. His daughter, Maria, married Brigadier-General William Paulding, Mayor of New York City, and lived with him at Lyndhurst.
