William Paulding Jr. (1770-1854)

Brigadier-General William Paulding Jr., Mayor of New York City

He was the Republican United States Representative from New York (1811-1813) and the 56th and 58th Mayor of New York City. During the War of 1812, he served as a Brigadier-General in the New York State Militia and was twice Adjutant-General of New York. He was the brother of James Kirke Paulding, U.S. Secretary of the Navy and one of the Knickerbocker Group of writers. Paulding Avenue in the Morris Park section of The Bronx is named for Mayor Paulding.  In 1806, he married Maria Rhinelander and from 1842 they lived at Lyndhurst with their three children (listed).
