Francis Richards, of Gardiner, Kennebec, Maine

He was born in England, where his father had retired after spending thirty years in Boston and Maine. Francis too, in the same capacity as his father, went to America with his brother, Henry, as agents of the Barings (the bankers) and lived for some years in Calais, Maine, often visiting Boston. After his marriage, he became a partner in Richards & Hoskins, owning extensive paper mills at Gardiner in Maine.
