Col. Francis Kinloch Huger (1773-1855)

M.D., of Charleston; State Senator for South Carolina

He trained as a physician but did not practice. In 1792, he risked his life in a (failed) attempt to rescue the Marquis de Lafayette from the prison of Olmutz in Austria. He later would serve in state legislature and in the War of 1812 as a cavalry officer. He was President of the Winyah Indigo Society. He married Harriott, daughter of Gen. Thomas Pinckney, Governor of South Carolina, and had 8-children.
