Francis Edward Powell (1900-1964)
of Glen Cove, L.I., New York; Assistant to the President of Mobil International Oil Co.
He was born in Baltimore, and grew up in Germany and then England where his father represented the Standard Oil Company. After graduating from Cambridge University, he became manager of the Anglo-American Oil Company's plant in Liverpool. He went to London in 1935 but returned to the United States during World War II. He was Assistant Vice President of the Socony Mobil‐Oil Company, and after his retirement he was Assistant to the President of the Mobil International Oil Company. He married Florence, daughter of Herbert Lee Pratt, President of the Standard Oil Company of New York, and they built their home (see images) on Dosoris Lane in Glen Cove, L.I., designed by Richard Arthur Kimball. He was a director of the Young Men's Christian Association in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and was President of the Glen Cove Neighborhood Association. A swimming pool at the Glen Cove Y was named for him.
