Mrs Ellen Stebbins (Curtiss) James

She was the daughter of Levi G. and Ellen (Couch) Curtiss. She donated the money for Hamilton College's Library and gave generously to the rebuilding of Wellesley. Using the pseudonym "Mr. Smith" she proposed building a large hall of residence at Wellesley and in her will she left $2.25-million to various charities. Her portrait was painted by Alphonse Jongers and she and her husband were the parents of one son.
