Elizabeth (Farley) Izard (1772-1826)

Mrs "Betsy" Carter (Farley) Banister, Shippen, Izard

She was was a grand-daughter of William Byrd III of Westover and heiress to "the famous Sauratown Land, the 26,000-acres that was once part of Guildford County". She was widowed by the age of seventeen. In 1791, she married Tommy Shippen of Philadelphia and took up residence at Farley. He died just seven years later and in 1803 she was married for a third time to George Izard, 2nd Governor of Arkansas Territory, with whom she continued to live with at Farley and had three further sons.
