Eliza Willing (Peters) Field (1820-1897)

Mrs Eliza Willing Spring (Peters) Field; died without children

She was born in Philadelphia, a grand-daughter of Thomas Willing, 1st President of the First Bank of the United States. After her husband's death in Washington, she moved to New York. She donated his 84-piece art collection to the Williams College Museum of Art in Massachusetts and donated her family portraits by Rembrandt Peale, Gilbert Stuart, and Thomas Sully to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She died at East Grinstead in Sussex, England, and left almost all of her fortune to charity.
