Mrs. "Nellie" Elinor (Medill) Patterson
Her first home (pictured) is located at 1500 North Astor Street, Chicago, and is known as the Patterson-McCormick House. It was a wedding gift from her father on the occasion of her marriage to Robert Wilson Patterson, of the Chicago Tribune. It was designed in 1892 by Stanford White, of McKim, Mead & White. In 1903, they built the Patterson Mansion (see images) at 15 DuPont Circle in Washington D.C., and in 1914 the by then widowed Mrs. Patterson sold their old home in Chicago to Cyrus Hall McCormick, Jr.
