Elias Hasket Derby (1766-1826)

Gen. "Hasket" Derby, Ship's Captain & Merchant of Londonderry, New Hampshire

He was born at Salem, Massachusetts, and entered his father's business and sailed all over the world - at Naples, he was entertained by Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton. He was the first to import Merino sheep in any significant number to America and manufactured broadcloth during the War of 1812. He retired to Londonderry, New Hampshire, where he died. He married Lucy Brown, daughter of Enoch Brown of Boston, and was survived by 9-children.
