Elias Hasket Derby (1739-1799)

Shipping Magnate "King Derby" of Salem, Massachusetts

He was born in Salem, Massachusetts, where he owned and co-owned a vast fleet of privateers that saw him become one of America's earliest millionaires and nicknamed "King Derby" of Salem. In 1761, he married Elizabeth, sister of another Salem millionaire, George Crowninshield. They had seven children (listed) who lived to adulthood and made their home at the magnificent Derby House (see images).
