Edward Hamlin Adams (1777-1842)
Edward H. Adams M.P., of Middleton Hall, High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire
He was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He made his fortune sourcing slaves for the colony's sugar plantations. He retired in 1824 and purchased Middleton Hall in Carmarthenshire for which he was elected M.P. and served as High Sheriff. In 1796, he married Amelia Sophia Macpherson who grew up at Mount Pleasant which still stands in Philadelphia. They were the parents of two sons, the elder of whom (who inherited Middleton Hall) changed the family name to "Abadam" to make it more Welsh.
