Edward Attwood Graves (1803-1865)

Merchant, of 421 Broome Street, New York & Morristown, New Jersey

He was Secretary of the New York Chamber of Commerce (1838-41). The firm of Boonen Graves & Co. of which he was a partner had an extensive business with Amsterdam and Rotterdam, selling the best Dutch gin and spices from the Dutch East Indies. In 1832, he married Mary, daughter of Thomas Addis Emmet, Attorney General of New York. He was the owner of the painting, Ecce Homo, by Willem van Herp (1614-1677), previously in the Emmet Collection, Seville, Spain. It later became part of the collection of the New-York Historical Society and in 2000 was for sale in London.
