Thomas Addis Emmet (1764-1827)
of Stony Brook, Suffolk Co., New York; Attorney-General of New York
He was the brother of the Irish Rebel Robert Emmet who was sentenced to hang for his role in the 1798 Rebellion. Thomas fled to America with his family where in 1812 he was appointed Attorney General of New York State. A monument to his memory was erected in St. Paul's Churchyard, Broadway, soon after his demise. On January 11, 1791, he married Jane, daughter of Rev. John and Margaret (Colville) Patten, of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, and they had nine children (listed). Through his youngest daughter, Jane, he is the great-grandfather of the shipping heir Sir Bache E. Cunard 3rd Bt.
