Duncan Campbell (1842-1922)

Lt.-Col. Duncan Campbell, O.B.E., D.L., J.P., 7th of Inverneill House, Argyll

He was Colonel of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and was known as "Old Inverneill" to distinguish him from his son of the same name. On several occasions he tried to revive the family Baronetcy of Inverneill granted to his great-uncle, Sir James Campbell, but he was consistently rebuffed by the government. He married Isabel, daughter of James Aspinall Tobin, J.P., of Eastham House, Cheshire, a former Mayor of Liverpool whose father and uncle had made their fortunes as slave ship captains before becoming pioneers of the palm oil trade in southeastern Nigeria.
